Team "Shout Outs" for 2010

 Braves
Saturday 5/22 - against the Rays:
Braves looked strong sending 30 batters to the plate earning 8 hits and 7 walks, for a Team Batting Average of .348! Chase Rinehimer & Dave Steadelle, both hitting the ball well in the last few games, delivered again. Chase a double, David a single and 2 runs scored, Mike Wyda had a bases loaded single with 2 RBIs and a bases loaded ball in play advancing 2 runners and pounding in a 3rd RBI on a fielder's choice at 2nd base.

Dean Ambosie & Ptrick Rother picked up their missing pieces (Ambosie a HOMERUN, Rother a triple) needed for them both to get the cycle for the year. THe two combined for 5-5: 1 walk, 3 singles, 1 triple 1 Homerun. @ runs scored and 3 RBIs!

Braves were equally strong on defence with Mike Wyda throwing hard through 4 1/3 innings and Ambosie firing for the remainder. In the end, it was the strong pitching of the Rays garnering 13 strike-outs in a 5 inning game that made the difference.

Monday 5/17 - against the A's:
Braves cam to Monday's game carrying their bats over their shoulders, but come the top of the 1st - the bats came off the shoulders & came off with a purpose. Let it be known that Minor League Baseball has a big strike zone, and that's just the way the Braves like it!
27 batters went to the plate earning 6 legitimate hits (Rother a single & a double, Bruce Leatherman a single, Chase Rinehimer a triple, Stan Gluc a single and Dave Steadelle a single) with a team batting average .222 - not bad.
Now take away the 8 walks (tactical at bats earning walks: Dean Ambrosie 2, Caleb Rowlands 2, Bruce Leatherman 1, Chase 2, Stan Gluc 1 and Gabe Chimolia 1). Braves were 6 for 19 as a team - average 316.
Now add 4 hits tha Manager ruled as errors (Ambosie 1, Chase 1, Dave Steadelle 1 and Mike Wyda 1) making the Braves 10 for 19 with a combined Team Batting Average of 526. The bottom line... the Braves bats are on their shoulders walking in & walking out. Other than that they're swinging!!!

Saturday 5/8 - against the Brewers:
Braves back on the path...

When the Braves took the field Saturday, it felt more like February on the cold mountains of South Korea than early summer baseball in Mt. Top, PA - Brrrr!!! Dean Ambosie threw for 3 and was helped by David Steadelle, Patrick Rother and Aaron Parker. The Braves bats were going early. Chase Rinehimer singled early, picking up an RBI and clubbed one deep with his 2nd at bat, but fell victim to a great catch by the Brewer's Left Center fielder. Mike Wyda had an RBI single and the red-hot Bruce Leatherman got a hit to keep things alive in the 2nd. Bruce Leatherman got on again to score in the 5th. The 5th inning was explosive. Dean Limongelli, Bryce Wyda, Bruce Leatherman, Gabe Chmiola, Mike Steadelle and Aaron Parker reached base successfully and scored. The #8 batter, Pat Rother, chose a strike on the high and outside corner to drive DEEP to Right for a HOME RUN!! The bottom of the 5th the Brewers put on a run of their own that included great base running, a GRAND SLAM, and an exciting play at the plate.

Thursday 5/6 against the Giants:

Things looked good early as the Braves pounded the Giants with a barrage of pitchers. Mike Wyda, Stanley Gluc, Chase Rinehimer, Dean Ambosie and Patrick Rother all shared duties on the mound. Dean Ambosie and Patrick Rotherboth scored twice and added RBI's. Bryce Wyda and Dean Limongelli also scored one run each.

Friday 4/30 - against the Indians:

The Braves took the field, led once again by the strong arm of Aaron Parker. After 4, David Steadelle, Dean Ambosie and a solid defense worked together for the remaining 2 1/3 innings. Ambosie was 2-3 with a single and double. Chase Rinehimerstood out at the plate, putting the ball in play 3-3, while picking up 3 RBI's. Mike Wyda also put the ball in play 3 times with 1 RBI.

Saturday 4/24 (Opening Day) - against the Indians:
The Braves opened the season & didn't waste any time with Dean Ambosie taking the 1st pitch of the season deep to Left Center for a lead off triple. Patrick Rother picked up the RBI. Aaron Parker was solid through 5, while picking up 2 hits for his cause. Caleb Rowlands was solid at the plate with a single and double. The 1st year crew - fresh up from Coach Pitch - looks promising, led by Bruce Leatherman who went 2-3. Patrick Rother took the mound, and with a solid effort by the defense, was able to close.

Friday 5/7 - against the Brewers:
Game 4 was a battle for the ages with the Minor League Milwaukee Brewers taking on the up and coming Washington Nationals. Top of the first, the Brewers came out with a sharp eye and quickly loaded the bases on three consecutive walks giving up by the young 1st time pitcher Stewart Caladie (friends call him Hollywood).

David Mazur (Maze) came in to relieve Hollywoodand Maze quickly struck out the side to end a possible early strike by the crew.

Bottom of the first the Nats lead-off hitter, Jack Parker, drew a walk and two batters later was dancing on 3rd base just waiting for an opportunity to cross home plate. With 2 outs, man on 3rd, Steven Evans comes to the plate. Evans wasted no time in smashing a solid triple to left center, placing the 1st score of the game.
The bottom of the second was just as exciting for the Nats. Matthew Snydersmashed a line drive single to lead off the inning, and then both David Wickiser and Dominic Capacidrew walks to load the bases. But the Nats were unable to scratch any runs across as the Brewers pitching staff stood tall.

The third inning turns out to be the most exciting inning of the game. With the Nats up 1-0 headed into the 3rd, the Brewers struck quickly with a lead off hit, a walk, and then another hit. With the bases jammed, the Brew Crew drove a solid smash to right field and cleared the bases with a stand up triple. The final batter of the inning drove in yet another run and the Brewers took a 6-1 lead headed into the bottom of the third.

In the bottom half of the inning, Nathan Dunsmuir started the inning off with a sharp eye for the ball and drew a walk. Jack Pollack drew his 2nd walk of the game and the Nats now had a man on 1st and 2nd. David Wickiserfollowed with a tough, HBP to load the bases for the "Maze". Maze came through with a clutch hit and narrowed the lead 6-2. Next batter, Steven Evans, hit a hard smash to third and the Brewers 3rd baseman made an awesome play to get Wickiserby a hair at 3rd base for a force out - but not before the Nats plated another run to make it 6-3. It was now "Hollywood's" turn to bat, and Mr. Antics did not disappoint. Caladie cracked one in the hole between 3rd and short and the Brewers' SS made a great play, but couldn't make the tag to the elusive "Maze" - who dodged the tag attempt and was "SAFE" at third base. Matthew Snyder came through for the 2nd straight time producing an awesome hit, driving Steven Evans to narrow the score 6-5. With 2 outs, Hollywood on 3rd base, Snyderon 1st base, the Nats final hitter of the inning, David Perrins gets into a lengthy battle with the Brewer's pitcher. Perrins hung tough in the batters box fouling off and dodging at least 17 pitches before getting called out on strikes to end what was the most exciting game of the year.
